On vacation, Captain Olimar flies his spacecraft, S.S. Dolphin, into outerspace. Suddenly, a meteor hurdles toward him and hits the spacecraft, which breaks it and leads to him crash-landing on an Earth-like planet. During the fall, parts of the S.S. Dolphin get scattered across the unknown planet. Olimar soon meets mysterious creatures, which he names Pikmin, that help him gather the scattered parts of his spacecraft and battle with enemies.
